Welcome to the story of our universe's beginning. Our journey begins thirteen point eight billion years ago, at a moment unlike any other in cosmic history. Before the Big Bang, all matter and energy in the universe was compressed into an infinitely dense point, known as the singularity. The temperature at this moment was unimaginably hot, reaching billions of degrees. Then, in a fraction of a second, something extraordinary happened. The singularity began to expand. But this wasn't an explosion in space like we might imagine. Instead, space itself began to expand. As space expanded, it carried everything within it, stretching the very fabric of the cosmos. As the universe expanded, it also began to cool, setting the stage for the formation of the first particles. This rapid expansion and cooling would soon lead to the formation of the first fundamental particles. As the universe continued expanding from its initial state, the temperature began to drop rapidly from trillions of degrees Kelvin.Within the first second, as temperatures reached about eight trillion degrees, quarks began combining to form protons and neutrons.Protons are made of two up quarks and one down quark, while neutrons contain one up quark and two down quarks. As the universe continued to cool over the next three minutes, these protons and neutrons began to combine through a process called nucleosynthesis. The simplest atomic nucleus, hydrogen, consists of a single proton. Through nuclear fusion, hydrogen nuclei combined to form helium nuclei, containing two protons and two neutrons. This process of nucleosynthesis created the foundation for all matter in the universe, though the temperature was still too high for complete atoms to form.About three hundred and eighty thousand years after the Big Bang, the universe had cooled significantly. At this crucial temperature of three thousand Kelvin, electrons could finally combine with atomic nuclei. As electrons bound to nuclei, forming the first complete atoms, a remarkable change occurred in the universe. For the first time, light could travel freely through space. This release of radiation created the cosmic microwave background radiation.Over billions of years, gravity began to pull matter together. This gravitational attraction led to the formation of vast cosmic structures.Within these galaxies, stars formed, and around them, planets began to take shape. This incredible process of cosmic evolution created the observable universe we see today. From the first atoms to the vast cosmic structures we see today, this marks the beginning of our observable universe.
