This then increases the rate of glucose breakdown by increasing cell respiration rates. After exercising, the bodies blood glucose levels are low. In order to control these levels alpha cells of the pancreas release glucagon, which can an increase in blood glucose concentrations. Additionally, in the liver it stimulates glycogen breakdown, which promotes glucose release by the liver and adipose tissue. This then decreases the rate of glucose break down by reducing respiration rates.
